A study has revealed that 58 per cent of people would rather ditch alcohol for a week than lose mobile internet.

The figures come courtesy of Boston Consulting Group, which also highlighted that just under half of respondents surveyed would shy away from coffee and movies before abandoning their smartphones for a week too.

BCG spoke to around 1000 smartphone and tablet users across the continent, namely from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

It highlights the growing dependence on mobile technology, and the increasing prevalence of gadgets as part of consumer lifestyles.

Amusingly, 77 per cent of respondents would abstain from fast food, while 22 per cent would trade their cars for less cushy locomotion, all in the name of keeping hold of their handsets.

What’s more, 17 per cent would give a resolute thumbs-down to coitus for an entire week should their smartphones stay within reach.

Even showering saw a week-long binning after 9 per cent of respondents vowed to avoid washing over losing mobile internet.

Chocolate, exercise, books, and TV were also amongst the raft of joys and vices pledged to be dropped in hopes of retaining web access.
