Netflix is planning to have 20 original series running on its service within the next five years.

The company has made a name for itself with its high quality early efforts in original content. House of Cards and Orange is the New Black have been bone fide hits.

It seems as if the immediate future for the company is more of the same. Or rather, much more of something a little different.

Speaking at a conference recently, Netflix chief content officer Theodore Sarandos spoke of the company's plans to be available globally within five years. He also said that the company was aiming to expand its roster of original content within that time frame "to probably as many as 20 original series."

Sarandos also revealed that the company was planning on showing new content roughly every two and a half weeks.

Interestingly, Sarandos noted that these new shows wouldn't be for everybody, but would be for different "segments of the viewership."

Encouragingly, he also noted that the company wouldn't necessarily judge a new show's success next to the ratings achieved by the aforementioned shows.

Indeed, Netflix continues to refrain from talking viewing figures. Sarandon explains that "it's an irrelevant measure of success for us," adding that "Ratings measurement has been bad for creative television."
