Phones 4u may now be a distant memory, but its insolvency bills live on, and the firm is looking to pay up quickly.
That’s why the ex-high street retailer has taken to flogging its leftover goods at auction, and they’re happy to take whatever you’re willing to pay.
So grim are times at Phones 4u HQ that Beats Solo2 headphones have gone for as little as £50, despite some selling on eBay for over double that.
Phones 4u administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers is peddling the spare fare via John Pye Auctions, with weekly bidding opening up every Friday, and closing on Tuesday.
Amongst the raft of phone cases and chargers lie some real gems, not least Sony headphones and Samsung smartwatches.
This week’s auction is about to see the final hammer come down, but we’re a mere 3 days away from a fresh week of floggery, so stay tuned.
There are around 2000 to 3000 items ready to land in consumer hands courtesy of the auction, making up a chunk of spare stock reportedly valued at over £86 million.
Steve Anderson, Manager of the Auction Hub, said: “There will be a sale every week until we get rid of the stock. It comes at an ideal time for people buying Christmas presents.”
He added: “It’s a shame that a big business is closed down and a lot of people have lost their jobs, although I know a lot of people from there who have now found work. From our point of view, it’s a great coup to be handling the sell-off.”
It’s worth mentioning, should you be keen to throw down some bidder cash, that you’ll be liable to paying a 20 per cent buyer’s premium on top of any purchase, with a further 20 per cent bundled on top of that to account for VAT.
