The Xbox One is about to get a whole lot better
Microsoft has tentatively pulled the wrappers off of a new feature which will allow Xbox Live Gold subscribers to play new Xbox One titles for free for 24 hours.
Called ‘Free Play Day with Gold’, the new feature was spied by console beta testers in the United States. Gamers found they were able to download and play Max: The Curse of Brotherhood using the new tool.
It appears this feature will supplement Microsoft’s already successful ‘Games with Gold’ service, which delivers two free games to subscribers every month. The Big M has said it will be making an announcement about its new plans ‘shortly’.
Try before you buy is not a new concept with this generation’s consoles. The PS4 offers a similar service and this new Microsoft offering seems to be a great way to immerse yourself fully in a game rather than a demo.
Xbox One sales doubled in June after Microsoft revealed a cheaper model. However, Microsoft’s console is still lagging way behind the PS4, according to recent reports. Worldwide sales of Sony’s hub have 10 million compared to the Xbox One’s five million. Microsoft will be hoping this new feature can at least start reversing that trend.
