The iPhone 6 display goes under the microscope
The Apple iPhone 6 is likely to be released with two display size options, that much we can safely assume. However, what will the screen resolution be for the new, larger Retina Display? Two reports on Tuesday offer differing indications.
Luxury iPhone vendor Feld & Volk, whose earlier leak allegedly provided a clear look at the iPhone 6 casing, claims the resolution of the display will for for the 4.7-inch models will be 1704 x 960.
The company reached the figure by placing a leaked display component under a microscope and discerning exactly that number of pixels.
Assuming the vendor is correct, it remains to be seen whether the resolution will remain the same for the rumoured larger 5.5-inch model.
However, in further reports on Tuesday, a different screen resolution was proposed.
9to5Mac reports a lower resolution of 1472 x 828 was spotted in the most recent beta for Xcode, a piece of software which allows developers to use the new Swift programming language to create iPad and iPhone apps.
Does this mean the iPhone 6 displays will perhaps offer different resolution for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models? Or is it simply more speculation?
One thing is for sure, both device will still be of a resolution high enough to carry off the Retina Display tag, which is based on a screen showing more pixels per inch than the human eye is able to discern at arm’s length.
Studies how any pixel density above 250ppi qualifies, while the iPhone 5S had a 1136 x 640 resolution of 326ppi.
