Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact revealed by speaker manual

Sony might have focussed its efforts on bigger tablets like the Xperia Z2 Tablet, but now it looks like it has a smaller slate up its sleeve.

The device was inadvertently revealed in the user guide to the Sony BSC10, a Bluetooth speaker with a charging dock.

According to the guide, the titchier tablet is called the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, and is listed as one of the compatible devices. What a mistake-a to make-a.

Sadly, that's all we know about the device. There are no specs to go on, and no picture to salivate over. So how do we reckon it'll stack up?

Given the name, we'd guess it'll be between 7- and 8-inches in size. Which would put it on a par with the Google Nexus 7.

The 'Compact' moniker is interesting too. Sony's Xperia Z1 Compact was one of the best small smartphones ever – it basically crammed the same specs as the full-size Xperia Z1 into a much smaller size. If Sony can pull off the same feat in a tablet format, we should be in for a treat.

There's no word on when we'll see the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact unveiled either, though we'd expect it to make an appearance at European tech fest IFA in a couple of weeks.

We'll be there bringing you all the news as it happens. What would you like to see from the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact? How can it best the likes of the Nexus 7? Let us know in the comments.
