Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Activision could launch its own movie studio in the future, bringing its game series to the biggest screens.
As games get more and more cinematic with each generation, it would make sense for developers to secure the rights to their movie counterparts.
According to a new report from The Information, Activision is considering doing just that by creating its own movie studios.
Sources suggest the developer has tentative plans to launch a studio that would create movies and TV series based on its game franchises like Call of Duty or even Destiny.
No doubt Activision would rather make its own movies and TV series than license out the rights to third party film studios. There’s already been a number of botched game to movie adaptations out there, possibly with Resident Evil being one of the only exceptions to the rule.
Apparently Activision CEO Bobby Kotick is already in talks to get the appropriate acting talents on board for the first Activision films. He is worried that such a branch out could turn public opinion on the games themselves.
It’s not like game themselves aren’t becoming more and more like movies. Gaming brands are attracting big name actors to their casts like Kevin Spacey for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare or Ellen Page for Beyond: Two Souls.
Plus, thanks to enhanced graphics, cutscenes are becoming more and more like Michael Bay action scenes.
There’s no word as to which franchises will make it to the big screen or when, but it would be interesting to watch a movie made under the supervision of the developers or publishers themselves.
We can see a Skylanders TV show being particularly popular with children.
