BT will keep its BT Sport package free to BT Broadband subscribers for a second year.
The British telecoms giant made quite a splash when it launched two brand new sports channels in 2013, acquiring a number of live English Premier League football games among other sporting content.
Despite offering such a polished product, perhaps the boldest move was offering its service for free to BT Broadband subscribers.
Many predicted that this was merely a one year gimmick designed to quickly hook a large number of early subscribers, but the company has decided to repeat the offer for a second year.
It's been revealed that BT will once again be offering its BT Broadband customers the service for free next season. There’ll be another 38 live Premier League matches on offer, as well as even more live rugby.
As before, this only applies to the two standard definition broadcast channels. Customers have to pay an extra £3 per month if they want to view their sport in glorious HD.
Sky broadband subscribers will have to pay £12 a month on top of their existing service, while it’s possible to get the channels free through Virgin Media’s broadband package thanks to a wholesale deal between the two companies. There’s still no sign of a similar deal with Sky.
BT has revealed that five million customers have access to BT Sport. Three million of those do so through the BT Broadband offer or by paying BT directly, while two million do so through Virgin Media.
