Acer claims to have made the world's fastest Chromebook

Acer has announced plans for its next Chromebook, and its Intel Core i3 processor will make it the fastest yet.

Most Chromebooks use Intel Atom processors, but the next Acer one will use an Intel Core i3 chip, a higher-power CPU that is generally reserved for fully-fledged laptops.

Although yet to be named, the powerful Chromebook is based on the design of the Acer C720. It will use the same body, but the upgrade from an Intel Atom processor will make it significantly more powerful.

The exact processor used is the Intel Core i3-4005U, a 1.7GHz dual-core chip. This offers Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics, the same found on some fairly expensive style-driven laptops.

The development of Chromebook hardware is interesting, but Acer has left many questions unanswered.

At present we do now know how much this Chromebook will cost, when it will go on sale, or if it will go on sale in the UK at all. There is also some question as to the worth of the power of a Core-series processor in a Chromebook.

We'll be looking for answers to these questions, so stay tuned for more on Acer's next Chromebook.
