Apple has been granted a patent for the iWatch, which suggests it could come with a curved display and a camera.
Although the Apple patent refers to the device as an electronic device that could be “a wrist-watch device”, it doesn’t specifically call it the iWatch at any point.
However, the patent diagrams, like the one above, certainly look a lot like a watch face to us.
The patent itself outlines that the iWatch will be an all new form factor for Apple and goes on to describe brand new components for the wrist-worn gadget.
From the detail provided in the patent, some iWatch features could include a light sensor, antenna and a camera.
The camera window outlined in the patent suggested a grooved camera trim that is curved to fit into the iWatch body.
It isn’t clear what screen technology the iWatch will use or whether it’ll be touch screen at all, but from the components it could have a slightly curved display.
Connectivity-wise, the iWatch should offer 3G/4G cellular data, Wi-Fi and GPS, the latter being something missing from fitness trackers and smartwatches like the Samsung Gear Fit.
This definitely isn’t the first iWatch patent we’ve heard of from Apple, with the latest one strengthening rumours that Apple is going to launch its first wearable tech imminently.
Earlier this week, Nike CEO Mark Parker teased that Nike could partner with Apple to launch the iWatch later this year.
“There has been a lot of speculation, which I understand,” said Parker. “I will just say that the relationship between Nike and Apple will continue and I am personally, as we all are at Nike, very excited about what’s to come.”
“We have partners who we work with and obviously the most visible partner is Apple. We have been working with them for a long time and we’re excited to see where that relationship goes going forward.”
