HTC M8 Ace could be plastic Galaxy S5 rival

The forthcoming HTC M8 Ace could be intended to undercut the Samsung Galaxy S5 with identical specs, a similar plastic construction, and a much lower price tag.

Earlier in the month we reported on the leaked HTC M8 Ace, which appeared via a slightly blurry leaked image (see above) through tech tipster @evleaks.

It appeared to be a scaled back version of the HTC One M8, which made us assume that it too would have an all-metal body. However, a fresh report seems to suggest that HTC might be taking a very different - and very confrontational - approach with the new phone.

According to Engadget’s "reliable source," the HTC M8 Ace will take a direct jab at the Samsung Galaxy S5. This means that it will have a plastic unibody construction and nigh-on identical internal specifications.

Those specs will include a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU and a 5-inch 1080p display. The kicker here is that the HTC M8 Ace will be "much more affordable" than the pricey Samsung Galaxy S5.

We’ve seen HTC nobly try and pretty much fail to rival Samsung (in sales terms at least) with a markedly different and altogether classier approach to smartphone design. Perhaps this 'match them and undercut them' approach will be more successful, if true.

It’s unclear whether the HTC M8 Ace will be getting the HTC One M8’s unique Duo Camera feature at this point, though given the apparent emphasis on cutting costs we’d be surprised if it did.
