Steve Wozniak makes a daring statement
Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, has revealed that there is nothing stopping Apple from launching an Android device.
Although Wozniak is no longer involved with the daily workings of Apple, he still has superior insights into the company’s mindset.
He believes Apple should launch an Android device as a second strand to its iOS flagship line.
“There’s nothing that would keep Apple out of Android market as a secondary phone market. We could compete very well”, said Wozniak in an interview with Wired. “People like the precious look of stylings and manufacturing that we do in our product compared to the other Android offering. We could play in two arenas at the same time.”
There’s definitely nothing technically stopping Apple from launching an Android device, as Google’s OS is an open-source system software available to anyone to develop.
Similar to the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet range, Apple could even introduce a heavy Android UI to bring it more in-line with iOS.
Wozniak, of course is still very protective of Apple and defended the company against backlash suggesting the company failed to show any innovation last year.
Apple is strongly rumoured to be working on an iWatch smartwatch and its own smart TV currently nicknamed the Apple iTV. However, neither made an appearance during 2013.
“The great products really come from secret development. You put small teams of great people on them and they aren’t bothered by other people commenting on what they’re doing while they’re doing it. A whole new product category doesn’t happen very often. It might happen once a decade. Sometimes you have to wait for one of those to come about.”
He also said the iPhone 5S was lacking in new features because of Apple’s choice, suggesting Samsung “just throws in a lot of features” that aren’t really that innovative.
“If you have something really good don’t change it; don’t screw it up”, said Wozniak, before adding that “people don’t really choose their smartphones based on features.”
