Pebble Appstore launches today on iOS, Android coming soon

Pebble has confirmed that the Pebble Appstore will be launching on iOS devices today, Monday February 3.

The Pebble Appstore was shown off at CES 2014 alongside the new Pebble Steel, but no exact release date was given at that time.

Although the Appstore will only be available on iOS originally, the Android version is now in beta and should be available soon.

“Putting finishing touches on the Pebble appstore over the weekend – check us out on Monday! Looking good so far,” came the official Pebble tweet.

The Pebble Appstore will be stored within the existing Pebble app on your smartphone and will allow you to download apps directly from the store.

Currently, Pebble owners have to source their apps from third-party resources, but with the Pebble Appstore all the apps will come together in one place for users to discover.

Similar to the Android and iOS app stores, the Pebble apps will be sorted into categories such as Daily, Remotes, Games, Notficiation,s Tools & Utilities, Watchfaces and Fitness.

Pebble developers will also be able to post their own apps to the Pebble Appstore, and were advised to submit them by January 9 in order for their app to be available at launch.

The Appstore will be introduced to the Pebble iOS app in an update that will start rolling out at 10am PST. UK Pebble users will start seeing the update appear from 6pm BST.

It has been suggested Pandora, GoPro, iControl, Yelp, FourSquare, Mercedes-Benz and ESPN will all have apps within the official Pebble Appstore when it launches later today.

The Pebble Steel is started shipping in late January, but has already sold out as there was only limited availability at the start. Now if you want to get your hands on the premium metal eInk smartwatch, you’ll have to wait until “late February”.
