Samsung Galaxy S5 Active tipped to follow flagship phone to market

Ahead of the imminent Samsung Galaxy S5 release date, reports have started to circulate around potential spinoff devices with a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active model mooted.

According to latest reports out of Samsung’s native Korea, the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 will be followed by a waterproof and dustproof model later in the year, much in the same vein as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active following the Samsung Galaxy S4.

While Korean outlet ETNews has suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active accounted for just “3-4 per cent” of all S4 sales, it has claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will be positioned closer to its flagship sibling and could account for 20 per cent of all S5-branded devices sold.

Although it is likely that Samsung will launch spinoffs of its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship, with a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini seemingly a given, we must stress that these reports should be taken lightly given their less than official roots.

Earlier this week Samsung offered the biggest indication yet that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be unveiled during MWC 2014, with the manufacturer issuing invites to a February 24 press conference that has been dubbed “Unpacked 5”.

Latest Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours have hinted the handset could play host to everything from a new quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor to an improved 16-megapixel camera and a larger 5.2-inch display with a 2K resolution.
