LG will be showing off its first webOS-powered television set at CES 2014 next month, it’s been confirmed.
Back in February, LG surprised everyone by purchasing the pioneering yet ultimately failed smartphone OS, WebOS, from HP.
LG announced at the time that it would not be directing the slick operating system into its own smartphones and tablets, which will continue to run on Android, but would load it into its smart TV range. Now, almost a year later, LG is about set to do just that.
The company will debut its webOS TV at CES 2014, which takes place from January 7. Zdnet Korea reports that LG researcher Hong Sung-pyo revealed the news at a semiconductor event recently held in Seoul, South Korea.
He also revealed that LG’s first webOS TV would run on a 2.2GHz dual-core CPU backed by 1.5GHz of RA, which will no doubt help power webOS’s inherent multitasking capabilities.
LG has previously revealed that it would alter the webOS interface to better fit its new TV home. Whether the OS will retain its influential card-based multitasking system - which has since been copied by iOS, Android and Windows Phone - is unclear.

The intention is evidently to create a smart TV interface that’s as slick, intuitive and powerful as separate TV streaming boxes like Apple TV and Roku. Adding more extensive online functionality is another core reason for converting webOS to the living room.
