PS Vita TV coming to Europe with PS Mobile games?

Sony could be launching the PS Vita TV in Europe with the addition of PlayStation Mobile gaming.

According to a leaked email to a Sony PlayStation Mobile Developer Program member, Sony could be launching the currently Japanese exclusive PS Vita TV in Western markets.

The PS Vita TV is currently only available in Japan and only plays a select range of PlayStation Vita games, all limited by the PS Vita TV’s lack of touchscreen and motion controls.

The tiny set top box is also capable of accessing video content and utilises the PS4 Remote Play functionality.

Sony has never mentioned the box being released outside the UK, but this English language email to a Western developer suggests otherwise.

“As [part of] our continuous activities to improve our service, we are investigating to add PlayStation Vita TV as one of the target devices of PlayStation Mobile. However, PlayStation Vita TV has some restrictions as below: no camera, no location function, no motion controller function and limited function of touch panel control”, reads the email.

The email goes on to ask whether the developer’s currently released PlayStation Mobile titles would be compatible with the PS Vita TV under such conditions.

It’s rather interesting the email speaks of “limited function of touch panel control”, as previously lists of games and PS Vita TV information stated no touchscreen functionality at all.

A software update may bring compatibility with the PS4 DualShock 4 controller and its new touchpad located between the analogue sticks.

Sony may well just be exploring the possibility of bringing PlayStation Mobile games to the PS Vita TV in Japan only, so as usual take this rumour with a large dollop of salt.

Although, we’d love to give the PS Vita TV a trial run here in the TrustedReviews office, so hopefully Sony has some plan to bring the device to Western markets in the future.
