Sales of the new Pokémon games have trumped every other Poké-launch that’s come before, according to new figures from Chart Track.

Combined floggery of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire trumped Pokémon X and Y by 17 per cent in the UK.

It’s doubly exciting for Nintendo as - unlike Pokémon X and Y - the new titles are classic remakes from days of GBA yore.

The previous record for Pokémon launches was held by Pokémon Black and White, which launched as a pair in 2011.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire launched on November 28, and are now available on Nintendo 3DS exclusively.

The games run off effectively the same plot as Ruby and Sapphire, which both saw a 2002 release on the Game Boy Advance.

The new titles have received generally positive reviews, with TrustedReviews’ Games Editor Sam Loveridge scoring it 8/10, praising the story, depth, and improvements.

Issues raised included ‘sometimes feeling like a slog’ and unfixed issues carrying over from the original titles.

Pokémon Omega Ruby currently ranks 6th on Chart Track, with Alpha Sapphire coming in just behind at 7th.
