Amazon Takeout & Delivery

Amazon has just unveiled a new service that allows you to find local takeaway in your area and get it delivered, all through the Amazon website.

The new ‘Takeout & Delivery’ platform compiles a lengthy list of takeaway location, and promises 24/7 service – much like the UK’s Just Eat.

Werner Vogels, Amazon’s Chief Technology Officer, lifted the lid on the new service earlier today on Twitter.

Unfortunately Amazon is only operating the service in Seattle, US right now, which is probably good news for Just Eat.

It’s the firm’s latest push in its Amazon Local initiative, which looks to offer area-based services.

The Takeout & Delivery service currently counts upwards of 100 restaurants in its roster, although this will surely spike as more cities join the scheme.

We’ve reached out to Amazon for comment on a UK release date, and we’ll update as soon as we know more.

As far as a UK release goes, it would likely be fairly simple for Amazon to implement. Just Eat is already very integrated in the UK, so Amazon’s service wouldn’t seem alien to consumers and businesses alike.

We’ve reached out to Just Eat for comment too, as Amazon’s service would land as a direct competitor to the service should it make it to UK shores.
