Samsung is said to planning the launch of its first Tizen smartphone on December 10.
After a number of false starts, Samsung could finally get its Tizen smartphone project off the ground at the end of 2014.
For some time now Samsung has been working on smartphones that run on the Tizen OS rather than Google's Android operating system - a partnership that has carried Samsung to smartphone dominance in the recent past.
The reason behind this intended switch is simple - Samsung plays a major role in the development of Tizen, so by launching a Tizen-powered phone it will take full control of both hardware and software.
However, Samsung has struggled to get a Tizen phone out onto the market. Back in June it announced the relatively high-specced Samsung Z, which would supposedly be its first Tizen phone. This was delayed and ultimately cancelled, and Tizen's debut was thus put back.
Now it seems as if Samsung's first Tizen phone will be aimed at the entry level of the market. Indeed, a new report claims that the company's first Tizen phone will be launched in India on December 10, according to a South Korean paper.
The Samsung Z1, as it's being labelled, will apparently retail for less than $100 (£64). It'll have the specs to match too, with a 4-inch 800 x 480 display, a 1.2GHz processor, and a dual-SIM set-up in keeping with the preference in developing countries.
As for when we'll see a Tizen-powered Samsung phone here in the West, well, that's anyone's guess.
