Nintendo has revealed it’s giving the 3DS XL the chop on Japanese home soil.
The device is now listed as ‘ending production soon’ across all colour options of the old 3DS XL.
This means the firm is set to focus on the new and improved 3DS XL model, scrapping the old one likely to simplify its product range.
Interestingly, Nintendo is opting to keep the old 3DS on sale despite having launched a newer version of that too.
It’s worth noting that the new Nintendo 3DS XL has been the best-selling Nintendo handheld since it launched last month.
It’s also been the best-selling video game platform in the country during its short life too.
The new 3DS XL came with additional buttons, an improved display, and a better CPU.
Battery life also saw a boost, with the device also seeing built-in support for the Nintendo amiibo range.
It’s not yet clear when Nintendo will officially end sales, but it’s assured to be imminent.
Lest we forget, Nintendo still hasn’t revealed when it will it be launching the new 3DS XL outside of Japan, so the older model will remain in prime position for UK retail at least for now.
