Twitter’s block feature has been overhauled in order to further combat incidences of bullying on the social network.
Those offended or annoyed by content can now file a report when they rock the block button and cite a reason. Users can file a report without blocking or it can be done in tandem.
When filing the complaint, there are several options to choose from. There's annoyance or spam, while users can also draw Twitter’s attention to a suspicion the account may have been compromised.
It’s also possible to say “This user is abusive” or “This tweet contains a sensitive image,” which is really the nuts and bolts of the new drive.
iOS and Android users as well as those on the web can tap on the tweet’s settings in order to access the new block or report settings. On the Twitter.com website, users can also see which accounts they’ve blocked within the app's setting.
The update is Twitter’s latest attempt to curb abusive behaviour using the site. The company claims it is also working on a system that will enable people to block more than one account in one fell swoop, while more new features are also in the works.
In a blog post entitled “building a safer Twitter,” the company wrote: “We are nowhere near being done making changes in this area. In the coming months, you can expect to see additional user controls, further improvements to reporting and new enforcement procedures for abusive accounts. We’ll continue to work hard on these changes in order to improve the experience of people who encounter abuse on Twitter.”
Good one Twitter for combating the online abuse, but slow down a bit chaps. After all, we wouldn't want to see this end of this skit, would we?
