Yota Phone 2
Russian manufacturer Yoga Devices has confirmed the Yota Phone 2 will go on British and European shores tomorrow, December 4.
The device, first announced way back in February 2014, is the refined successor to the innovative, but poorly received, dual-screened Yota Phone
The new Android 4.4 KitKat (Lollipop is forthcoming) handset retains the unique e-paper rear display, but the surface is now completely touch-friendly rather than being controlled by a panel at the foot of the screen.
Yota has also departed from the durable, solid square design in favour of a more conventional build with rounded edges.
In terms of specs, the Yota 2 delivers a 4.7-inch 1080p Full HD AMOLED display, while the always-on, low-power EPD screen on the rear packs a resolution of 960 x 540. Both displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
There’s also Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor (2.2GHz) and 2GB of RAM doing the donkey work and room for 32GB storage. Users will also have access to NFC connectivity and 4G mobile data speeds.

It’s also out in Europe tomorrow, while those in the States will have to wait until the second quarter of 2015 for a crack at the Yota Phone 2.
The phone will have to go some to ensnare consumers following the disappointing reception that greeted the original Yota Phone.
At TrustedReviews we awarded the well-meaning device a 5/10 score. Aside from the sluggish performance and average battery life, our reviewer knocked off points for being unable to work on the e-paper screen and the “easy to miss gesture sweet spot.”
It seems at least three of those concerns have been addressed, so perhaps this refined handset will fare better this time around?
