Apple has come under fire from a Chinese smartphone manufacturer over alleged patent infringement.
Digione says the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are both in breach of China-based patents for handset design.
According to Macworld, the firm published an open letter online that it originally sent to Apple earlier this year.
The letter details how the new iPhones could be in direct conflict with a July-granted patent by China’s patent office.
Digione’s 100 V6 smartphone retails at around £83 and does look similar to the iPhone 6 in terms of build.
The V6 runs off Android, touts a 5.5-inch display, and rocks a 28nm 2.0GHz chip.
According to Digione, Apple has refused to respond to the claims, and has now decided to go public with the letter to garner some publicity.
The whole situation is likely exacerbated by the fact that Apple decided to enter China with its smartphones for the first time this year.
Of course, it’s entirely feasible that Digione based its own designs on Apple’s fare, courtesy of information gathered from leaked designs and prototypes early in 2014.
Digione said in its letter that it hopes “communication with goodwill would contribute to solving potential legal disputes.”
Legal action has not yet been taken over the matter, but the use of the word ‘potential’ means it’s definitely a possibility.
