Oppo may launch world's slimmest smartphone on Wednesday

Chinese manufacturer Oppo has been sending out invites to a launch event to be held on October 29, where it could have a super-slim smartphone surprise up its sleeve.

It's expected that the October 29 event will see the launch of the Oppo N3, the manufacturer's latest flagship Android phone.

However, it's being reported that the company could have something else in store.

The invite sent out by Oppo shows two distinct devices hidden behind a curtain, and GizChina reckons that one of those could be an unbelievably slim smartphone.

The site recently claimed that Oppo was working on a smartphone that would bring new meaning to the term slim, with a reported 4mm thick chassis. Yes, you read that right.

Apparently, the phone's display will be in the 5 to 5.5-inch category, with sport LTE connectivity, and will run on the latest 64bit Mediatek processor. Where will they fit it all?

Just to clarify, this is very much a case of the website putting two and two together - it has heard no reports that this is the mysterious second device featured in that teasing invite picture.

If correct, however, then we could be set to get a new champion in the smartphone thinness race.

The Oppo N3, meanwhile, will be most notable for the rotatable 13-megapixel camera that the line has become renowned for.
