Google’s leadership squad has undergone a shake-up – namely directing Google’s core goodies under the command of Sundar Pichai.
Pichai is a decade-long Googler who, until now, was known only as the head honcho at the firm’s Android and Chrome departments.
According to a new report however, Pichai has become effective godfather over a much more sizeable raft of Google services.
Pichai’s new tech stomping grounds will include research, search, maps, Google Plus, commerce, ad products, and infrastructure divisions.
A busy bee he’s set to be, as Pichai is still reported to be heading up Android and Chrome for the foreseeable future.
The report also claims that six Google execs ‘in charge of newly added product areas’ will now be reporting to Pichai, instead of reporting to CEO and founder Larry Page.
Page reportedly shook up the leadership team to focus on the ‘bigger picture’.
The CEO will now have more time to focus his attention on new products, although he’ll still be managing some older divisions, including Nest, Google X, and corporate development.
It’s also worth noting that YouTube, acquired by Google back in 2006, will still remain under Page’s jurisdiction, not Pichai’s.
Pichai Sundararajan, more commonly known as Sundar Pichai, joined Google back in 2004.
He began his Mountain View life leading innovation for Chrome and Chrome OS, and is cited as one of the biggest movers behind Google Drive.
Pichai then took up the reins over Android in 2013, and launched the budget Android One project in India earlier this year.
