LG has confirmed that its flagship LG G3 smartphone will be getting the latest version of Android before 2015.
The South Korean tech firm has revealed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be landing in Q4 this year.
The announcement came via the firm’s German Facebook page – LG Electronics Deutschland – from an employee called ‘LG Sascha’.
Courtesy of Facebook translation, the post read: “Hello everyone, we want to inform you hereby, that it upgrade to Android 5.0 2014 will be published lollipop for the LG G3 in the fourth quarter.”
“LG G2 will follow">The upgrade package for the LG G2 will follow,” the post continued.
Just a few days ago, we heard rumours that LG was working on getting the Android update out to phones before the end of 2014, and now it’s official.
Oddly, it doesn’t seem like LG has revealed this important tidbit of information anywhere else on the net.
Samsung is set to stick Lollipop on its Galaxy S5 in December, while Sony is gifting the new 'droid to its Xperia Z3 early next year. Google's Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets will see the upgrade on November 3.
Android 5.0 Lollipop launched earlier this month, touting a flatter ‘material design’ aesthetic, improved battery life, 64-bit chip support, and better cross-device communication.
The G3 is LG’s 2014 flagship, boasting a massive 5.5-inch QHD screen, a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization, and a lighter, flatter Android skin than its predecessors.
