Apple might have bested Samsung on home soil, with pre-sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus reportedly trumping the Galaxy Note 4.
Last Friday saw three Korean mobile carriers accept pre-order cash for the two new iPhones, with record-breaking figures in tow.
According to the WSJ, the telecom company KT Corp took orders for upwards of 50,000 orders within 20 minutes, 10,000 of which came within the first 60 seconds.
LG Uplus Corp., a first-time iPhone flogger, reported 20,000 orders for the iPhone 6 duo in just 20 minutes.
SK Telecom Co., the country’s largest mobile network provider, didn’t give a specific figure, but said that the first and second batches of iPhone orders were ordered to capacity.
It’s all still fairly vague at this point, but analysts are estimating that pre-order figures for the new iPhones have totaled up at somewhere around 100,000 units.
Compare this to the Galaxy Note 4 – reported to have pre-sold around 30,000 units in a similar time frame – and the difference is stark.
Samsung is a big player in its South Korean homeland, claiming an incredible 63% mobile market share back in Q2 this year.
It’s worth noting that these figures are pitting a lone phablet against two Apple handsets, and the result could be very different if Note 4 figures were paired with the Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-order stats.
