Samsung Galaxy Alpha unveiled ahead of September release

Samsung has listened to the critics and introduced its first metal bodied Android phone, as the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is officially unveiled.

The thing of much rumour and speculation in recent weeks, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has entered the realms of reality with its metal framed finish being paired with a mid-range array of specs.

Built with the consumer in mind, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality,” Rob Orr, Vice President, IT and Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland claimed in unveiling the handset.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Features

With the Korean manufacturer having been widely criticised for the plastic construction of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha has looked to address these concerns with a “metal frame and solid finish”.

Despite retaining the softtouch plastic rear as seen on past Galaxy handsets, the edging of the super slim, 6.7mm thick handset have been crafted from brushed metal.

Design aside, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha’s specs sheet is a bit of a hit and miss affair.

The phone’s 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display features just a 1280 x 720 pixel HD resolution, a long shot from the Full HD and QHD heights of the market leading devices.

Adding a 12-megapixel primary camera alongside a 2.1-megapixel offering for selfie lovers, the Alpha boasts 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Unusually for Samsung, there is no micro SD expansion port.

On to power and the Alpha is set to land in two guises. While some markets will benefit from a octa-core offering, others will be handed a 2.5GHz quad-core rendition of the device.

All the usual connectivity options feature alongside an 1860 mAh Lithium-Ion battery.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Release Date and Price

Although a precise Samsung Galaxy Alpha release date has yet to be confirmed, the manufacturer has stated that the phone will hit retailers ‘at the beginning of September’.

It is not yet clear how much the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will set wannabe owners back.
