HTC is said to be working on a new large-screen smartphone in the HTC One Max range.
The first HTC One Max launched last October, and featured a similar design to the HTC One M7, as well as many of the same component. However, it boasted a larger 5.9-inch 1080p display and a new fingerprint scanner.
In recent days, TKTechNews has reported that a new HTC One Max may be in the works. Unsurprisingly, it's said to closely resemble the HTC One M8, only with a super-sized form factor.
There will be differences to last year's approach, however. According to the report, the new HTC One Max will feature an improved CPU compared to the HTC One M8 - a Snapdragon 805 compared to the smaller phone's Snapdragon 801.
Also, unlike the first HTC One Max, there'll be no fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone.
If that all sounds a little vague at this point, that's because the report claims that the new HTC phablet is being tested at this point. There are no solid launch details.
Still, this is progress from the state of things at the end of May. Back then, it was reported that HTC had "suspended indefinitely" its work on a new phablet, then referred to as the HTC One M8 Prime.
Of course, the HTC One M8 Prime was shaping up to be a bit more than simply a bigger HTC One M8. It was rumoured to have a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440p) display, alongside a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM.
It was also suggested that the Prime would come with waterproof properties thanks to the use of an exotic metal-silicone hybrid material.
The question now is, how much of this advanced design will make it through to the new HTC One Max, if it indeed exists?
