Google’s next-gen smartphone appears to have been given a premature outing, as leaked GFXBenchmark results tease claimed Nexus 6 specs.
Leaked under the moniker of the Motorola Shamu, a codename previously linked with the Nexus 6, the eagerly awaited Nexus 5 follow-on has popped up, with a promising array of innards hinted at.
Although the Nexus 6 specs aren’t specifically listed, the handset has been benchmarked alongside a mass of rival Full HD, Snapdragon 801 powered devices.
What’s more, the results chart shows the unconfirmed handset holding its own against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2.
With the Nexus 5 having been bestowed with a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display and a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, the Nexus 6 looks set to be an incremental but nonetheless promising update on its predecessor.
Although it had been suggested the handset could be handed a 2560 x 1440p QHD display similar to that on the LG G3, this now appears extremely unlikely to be the case.
Further Nexus 6 rumours have recently claimed the handset will land alongside the heavily tipped Nexus 8 tablet as one of the launch devices for the new Android L operating system.
With past Nexus handsets having been unveiled in October ahead of a November release, it looks likely that the Nexus 6 will follow suit.
Having partnered with LG on both the Nexus 4 and 5, it is widely expected that Google will shift allegiances to Motorola, a company it until recently owned, for the next Nexus smartphone.
