HTC is set to share its wares, as the Taiwanese manufacturer prepares to expand its Zoe camera software to rival Android handset makers.
Having proved a hit on the company’s recent smartphone efforts, including the likes of the HTC One M8, the Zoe software is now being readied as a downloadable app for Samsung, LG, Huawei and all manner of other Android handsets to make use of.
Taking much of the fuss out of creating video highlights, Zoe allows users to mix up to 16 still images and video clips into short, neatly edited, highlight reel up to 30 seconds in length.
With users able to select a theme and add a music track, the software quickly cuts and splices content together with minimal fuss.
According to the reports, the Zoe app will launch in beta form for non-HTC branded Android handsets later this week. Set to be available as a free download, HTC is reportedly looking to build a substantial user base before it looks into monetising the software.
Drew Bamford, head of the HTC Creative Labs confirmed the reports, taking to Twitter to state: “Thanks to @inafried for breaking the news on HTC Creative Labs’ imminent release of #Zoe beta.”
Speaking with Recode he added: “I expected there to be a lot more resistance to shipping things that previously were considered HTC experiences.
“Honestly there hasn’t been that much argument.”
Zoe is expected to be the first in a series of HTC branded software releases for rival Android devices. In a bid to garner more interest, it looks likely that HTC will bestow its third-party Zoe service with far greater social integration than currently offered.
