Google has released a glimpse at the prototypes of the first two Android Wear smartwatches, the Motorola Moto 360 and the LG G Watch.
It’s now less than a months until Google I/O, where the search giant is expected to fully unveil its smartwatch OS, Android Wear.
In the meantime the company has been content to drop plenty of little tidbits of information on the platform, including a recent glance at the first devices to be powered by Android Wear.
A recent posting on the Android Developers Blog offers a view of the Moto 360 (above) and the LG G Watch (below) - or at least prototypes of each device. They are evidently running Android Wear, with the sharp notifications on the screens mirrored in a nearby MacBook in an effort to refine the UI design.
One interesting point is the challenge - or otherwise, as it turns out - of developing apps for a round form factor, as with the Moto G. According to Google developer Roman Nurik, "We’d never designed round UIs before, so we weren’t sure what this new adventure would be like. Quite frankly, it ended up being unbelievably easy: tweaking all 8 of our screen mocks for round took under an hour."
He then details the design process for converting his initially square app idea into the a more rounded (literally) format.
Motorola’s Moto 360 is expected to launch some time in July, while the LG G Watch will become the first Android Wear device when it launches later this month.
