As WWDC 2014 kicks off in San Francisco, Apple has praised its develop base, a community that has hit a new milestone.
Growing at a faster rate during the past 12 months than at any point in the company’s history, Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed that there are now more than 9 million registered Apple developers.
“We are here today and all week to celebrate the developer community and all the great apps they’ve created,” Cook said during his WWDC keynote.
“The developer community is incredibly vibrant. We now have 9 million registered developers.”
He added: “That’s up almost 50 per cent over last year and this is the most developers we’ve ever added in a single year.”
With this developer community responsible for hundreds of thousands of applications across both iOS and OS X devices, Cook has suggested that this dev base will continue to grow at a rapid rate.
He stated: “Our youngest developer here in the audience today is 13. We are going to be seeing apps from them for a long time.”
As well as discussing its expanding developer base, Apple used its WWDC keynote to unveil the new OS X software, Yosemite.
Offering a revised look and a mass of new features, OS X Yosemite has been updated to better communicate with your iOS powered mobile devices, such as the iPhone 5S or iPad Air.
