Asus Padfone X - The US AT&T edition
The Asus PadFone S has been announced at Computex alongside a range of new laptop devices.
Asus has updated its unusual tablet smartphone hybrid for 2014 at Computex, giving it a more slightly more rugged exterior than the PadFone Infinity.
The US version is called the PadFone X, but apparently the worldwide edition is called thePadfone S, but the two models pack near identical specs.
The PadFone S smartphone uses a 5-inch full 1920 x1080p HD display, while the tablet station has a 9-inch 1920 x 1200p full HD screen.
The tablet station is powered by the phone’s 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. The phone packs a rear 13-megapixel camera and 2-megapixel front-facing snapper.
When the phone’s front-facing camera is covered up as it is docked, the tablet has a 1-megapixel video calling sensor to compensate.
In the tablet is a 4,990mAh battery, while the phone has a 2,300mAh unit.
Asus Memo Pad 8 and Asus Memo Pad 7
Asus also announced the Asus Memo Pad 8, which it claims is the “world’s lightest 8-inch LTE tablet”.
This 8-inch slate runs on a 64-bit 2.3GHz Intel Atom processor with an 8-inch 1280 x 800p HD IPS display. It has a 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front “PixelMaster” camera.
Both the 8-inch Memo Pad 8 and 7-inch Memo Pad 7 come with Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity.
The only differences between the two sizes is that the 7-inch Asus Memo Pad 7 offers a 7-inch 720p HD display rather than a full 1080p HD affair.
Asus Transformer Book V
Also among the Computex Asus announcements was the Asus Transformer Book V, which is a rather unusual Windows laptop/tablet hybrid, which also comes with an Android phone that slots in the back.
The tablet laptop hybrid has a 12.5-inch HD IPS display running on an Intel Core processor and 4GB of RAM. Powered by a 28Wh battery, it claims to offer a battery life of 10 hours surfing time.
Flash storage in the tablet/laptop portion is 128GB, which works in combinated with a 1TB hard drive packed into the keyboard section.
The 5-inch phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat and features the new 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom chip with LTE radio.
When you dock the phone in the laptop, you get presented with the phone’s Android interface within the Windows 8.1 OS of the tablet.
There’s no pricing details or firm UK release dates for any of these new devices as yet.
