Toshiba has announced a duo of new tablets running Windows 8.1, the 8- and 10-inch Toshiba Encore 2 models.


Both are powered by a quad-core Intel Atom processor and come with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800p HD running the latest Windows 8.1.


“The mobility provided by the Toshiba Encore 2 family, deliver a flexible solution for customers in a mobile-first world,” said Peter Han, VP of Worldwide OEM marketing at Microsoft. “Toshiba’s continued innovation combined with touch and the capabilities in Windows 8.1 deliver an experience that will delight customers.”



Toshiba Encore 2 Features


The Toshiba Encore 2 tablets share some specs, including the quad-core Intel Atom processors. The larger 10-inch model comes with 2GB of RAM, while the smaller 8-inch only has 1GB.


Both tablets feature 32B of internal storage though with microSD card support up to 128GB, and they come with a one-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription as standard.


Running the latest Windows 8.1 OS with Bing, the tablets feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity and offer around 8.5 hours of battery life.


The Encore 2 slates come in Satin Gold and pack a 5-megapixel rear camera with auto focus and a 1.2-megapixel front facing snapper.


Toshiba’s Windows 8.1 tablets also feature Dolby Digital Plus Advanced Audio technology, which enhances the audio heard through their stereo speakers.



Toshiba Encore 2 Release Date and Price


Both the 10- and 8-inch Toshiba Encore 2 tablets will go on sale in Q3 2014, with UK pricing yet to be announced. In the US though, the slates will start at $200, which equates to around £120.
