Samsung patent teases new smartwatch offering
New Samsung patents have leaked, revealing the Korean manufacturer is working on a round-faced smartwatch that will mimic the upcoming Motorola Moto 360.
With the Motorola Moto 360 set to reinvent the smartwatch market later this summer with a round, touchscreen display and new Android Wear OS, leaked patents have now shown that Samsung will move beyond the square-faced Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo and follow a similar path.
Originally filed last August, the round Samsung smartwatch patents have not only revealed that such a device is in the works, but confirmed the techy timepiece will play host to a range of gesture controls.
According to the leaks, the round Samsung smartwatch’s UI and features list has been teased in detail, with an inbuilt camera to line up alongside an integrated heart rate monitor and a range of software enhancements.
Shown offering a range of wrist-based benefits, the teased device will reportedly bring weather, location and fitness-tracking direct to your arm.
What’s more, unlike to static Moto 360, the currently unnamed round Samsung smartwatch will see the circular display able to be popped out from the wrist strap and attached to a variety of different peripherals, including a necklace, keychain and belt loop.
The watch has also been shown to be used as a wrist-mounted alternative to your TV’s remote control.
There is currently no word on a release date or price for the teased smartwatch, although reports earlier this week claimed that Samsung is plotting to launch a watch phone as early as next month.
