Beats Solo2 headphones confirmed for June 1 release

Forget all the talk about what Apple will do with Beats, the audio specialist has just launched a new pair of headphones as the Beats Solo 2s are formally unveiled.

Set to hit retailers this weekend, the Beats Solo 2s build on one of the brand’s leading product lines, with the original Beats Solo headphones reportedly shifting a staggering four pairs per minute globally last year.

“When you think about Beats you think about iconic design, incredible sound, premium quality, profound comfort and of course, portability,” Beats President Luke Wood said. “We’ve worked hard to earn this reputation and along with that comes very high expectations.”

He added: “Solo 2 delivers on all fronts while finding new frontiers in audio performance to bring the emotion back to music."

Said to offer a more dynamic wider sound than its predecessor, the Solo 2 headphones will be available in a range of colours, with black, white, red, grey, blue and pink colour schemes joining a special pair of Product Red cans.

Not just for hip-hop fans, Beats has claimed that the Solo 2’s enhanced clarity will make this on-ear option suitable for all manner of musical tastes.

The Beats Solo 2 headphones have been pencilled in for launch this Sunday, June 1, with a premium £169.95 price tag. For those extra keen to secure their own pair, pre-orders are open now through the Beats store.

While a new product launch usually marks a major day in a company’s calendar, the arrival of the Solo 2 has been overshadowed somewhat by confirmation that Beats has been bought out by Apple in a $3 billion takeover.

Making the announcement last night, Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine stated: ““I’ve always known in my heart that Beats belonged with Apple.”

He added: “The idea when we started the company was inspired by Apple’s unmatched ability to marry culture and technology. Apple’s deep commitment to music fans, artists, songwriters and the music industry is something special.”
