Apple iTV, the company’s much rumoured own-branded television set, has been delayed until 2015 due to ongoing issues signing up content deals, latest reports have suggested.
With an Apple iTV release date have been tipped for late 2013 or early 2014, it is now not believed that the smart television will not launch until late 2015, with an Apple iWatch wearable instead set to take centre stage in the coming year.
With the Samsung Galaxy Gear, Sony Smartwatch 2 and Pebble device having brought the smartwatch sector into focus during the past 12 months, Apple is said to be putting renewed efforts into its own wearable gadget, taking attentions away from former CEO Steve Jobs’ known pet project.
Citing “sources in the TV supply chain,” industry analysts Display Search have suggested that the Apple iTV project has been “put on hold” in order for the Cupertino-based company to focus its efforts on a 2014 Apple iWatch release date.
It added that its insider sources had indicated that Apple was continuing to struggle in its efforts to secure enough exclusive content to make its Apple iTV and subsequent television platform a tantalising enough offer to appear to the masses.
Latest Apple iTV rumours have suggested that Apple is planning on launching 46-inch and 55-inch iterations of its first television set, with the futuristic TVs to benefit from 4K resolution panels, connected services and, of course, the company’s trademark svelte design styling.
Shortly before his death in 2011, Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs gave an interview to biographer Walter Isaacson about his desires to tackle the television sector.
Suggesting he had devised a plan to succeed on the competitive TV scene, Jobs stated: I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use.” He added: “It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”
