Monster took to the CES stage today to announce a new waterproof Bluetooth speaker, and enlisted the help of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal along the way.

The press conference saw Shaq show off the Monster Superstar Backfloat, which can play music while adrift in the pool, bathtub, or kitchen sink.

“We’re unlocking a whole new arena,” said Vern Smith, Monster’s Product Director. “This is the first audio-file speaker that can float on its back.”

The release date is unconfirmed – though it’s expected to be soon – with a mark-up set somewhere around the £150 mark.

The firm also announced a host of other audio equipment, including new Adidas-stamped headphones, and a hi-def speaker system.

Amongst the headphones was the iSport SuperSlim, which are purportedly the world’s thinnest in-ear Bluetooth headphones.

They’re built with sweat-resistant materials, and promise five hours of battery life, as well as a diminutive (read: helmet-friendly) form factor.

Monster also used the occasion to unveil its own dedicated music player – dubbed Pure Monster Sound: Experience – set to debut on Android and iOS.

The app ties in with your mobile device’s existing music library, and uses the metadata of each song to create audio profiles of the music.

Finally, Monster revealed the expansion of existing partnerships with UFC and Adidas at the event.
