Once an expensive luxury, 4K Ultra HD resolutions are becoming the TV ‘standard of the day’, leading manufacturer LG has suggested.
Despite 4K content still being severely limited, LG has suggested that the technology, which offers four times the resolution of traditional, 1080p Full HD panels, is becoming a mainstream offering with consumers and will only grow in the coming years.
“4K Ultra HD is becoming the picture quality and resolution standard of the day with big screens and sales figures are reflecting the public’s excitement with this new technology,” Tim Alessi, Head of Product Development at LG US said.
Despite 8K TVs already being demoed at CES 2015, Alessi has suggested that 4K will grow to become the industry standard for years to come.
“On a worldwide basis, latest estimates predict that over 32 million 4K TV unit sales will be made in 2015, including 5 million in the US. That’s up from about 1 million last year,” he stated.
“People are jumping on the 4K bandwagon.”

Highlighting the growth of 4K, LG has confirmed that the technology will feature on more than half of its 2015 product line up.
“LG is devoted to advancing OLED, but we also remain committed to expanding our leadership in LCD, 4K Ultra HD,” Alessi said.
“We love 4K UHD. In 2015, 60 per cent of our TVs will be 4K with sizes ranging from 105- down to 43-inches.”
He added: “We will also be significantly advancing the picture quality of our 4K LCD TVs. This year will feature Colour Prime technologies on several series which will expand the colour gamut on the displays by up to 30 per cent.”
