PS4 sales

In the battle of the next gen consoles, Sony announced it sold just over 4 million PS4 consoles during the 2014 Holiday period

That's according to Sony CEO, Kaz Hirai who revealed the impressive sales figures during the company's CES 2015 press conference.

There was more good news for the Sony console that's now just over a year old having racked up 18.5 million units sold worldwide with PlayStation Plus subscriptions hitting the 10.9 million mark.

PS4 adoption rates are apparently the best Sony have ever had for a PlayStation console and that's despite the lack great PS4 exclusives and some missing features in territories outside of the US like PlayStation Now and PlayStation Vue.

Microsoft has yet to officially comment on sales over the Christmas period although Xbox One was reported to have outsold the PS4 in the US in November last year with console approaching the 10 million units sold mark.

Some aggressive pricing leading up to Christmas will have no doubt helped the Xbox One's cause and we anticipate it won't be too long before Microsoft has some impressive sales figures to share with us as well.
