Ahead of CES 2015, Acer has rekindled its smartphone efforts, formally unveiled the Acer Liquid Jade S as an affordable octa-core offering.

Entering the realms of reality just hours before the Las Vegas-based convention kicks into life, the handset has been showcased as a 5-inch, 4G LTE compatible device with Mediatek’s latest 64-bit octa-core CPU at its heart.

“We are very pleased to be working with our close partner Acer on its new Liquid Jade S launch. Jeffrey Ju, MediaTek’s SVP and General Manager of wireless communication said of the company’s octa-core support.

This chip, featuring eight 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 CPUs, will help Acer satisfy its customers’ demand for faster and more powerful Android 64-bit mobile operating systems.

Although far from being an iPhone 6 or LG G3 challenger, the Acer Liquid Jade S is no slouch.

The compact, 7.78mm thick, 116g handset adds Mali T760 graphics to its bag of tricks alongside a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f1.8 aperture and a 5-megapixel forward-facing camera for selfie lovers.

Running Android 4.4 Jelly Bean out of the box, Acer has already confirmed that the Jade S will be handed an Android 5.0 Lollipop update “later in 2015”.

Set to be offered in two colours schemes – that’s right, black and white – the Acer Liquid Jade S has been confirmed for an in-store release later this month.

The Europe-bound handset will be relatively easy on your wallet too, heading to market alongside a €299 (£234) price tag.
