The iPad Air 2 release date has been confirmed, and you’re not going to have to wait too long to get your hands on the Touch ID-packing tablet.
While Apple has failed to offer an exact date of launch for its new iPad lines, retailer John Lewis has confirmed it will open its doors early tomorrow, October 22, to allow eager customers to get their hands on the tablet as early as possible.
Last week the retailer exclusively told TrustedReviews when the iPad Air 2 would go on sale in the UK.
Having been formally unveiled alongside the iPad mini 3 , Apple’s sixth-generation tablet will be officially available for purchase alongside its smaller sibling.
“We will start selling the new iPads in store on Wednesday,” Will Jones, a Tablets and Computing Buyer with John Lewis told us last week.
Confirming what models will be available, he added: “Yes [that is both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3].
“I think the 4G versions might be a little bit behind that, but certainly the Wi-Fi-only models are launching on Wednesday, based on our current information.”
Although in unveiling the tablet last week Apple confirmed the eagerly awaited device would start shipping within days, the Cupertino-based company has failed to offer a precise date of release.
Now, John Lewis has confirmed wannabe iPad owners will have to wait just hours to snap up the Air 2.
“Once again, Apple fever has hit the nation and we have decided to open selected stores at 8am tomorrow as we anticipate customer demand for these tablets will be huge," Jones said.
"We predict that the gold versions of both will be the biggest sellers as until now iPads have only been available in white and silver. Stock will be tight so we recommend Apple fans buy early to avoid missing out.”
In a busy week for the iPhone 6 maker, the iPad Air 2 will launch alongside the new iPad mini and just days after today’s arrival of the iMac with 5K Retina display.
Ensuring there's an option to suit your needs, Apple is offering 18 different iPad Air 2 configurations.
With the tablet set to be made available in three colour schemes – silver, space grey and a new gold option – it will also be offered with Wi-Fi only or with Wi-Fi plus 4G, and in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities.
A moderate improvement on last year’s iPad Air, the new tablet adds a powerful A8X processor alongside the formerly iPhone-exclusive Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
iPad Air 2 pricing is a familiar affair with the 16GB Wi-Fi model kicking things off at just £399. Costs go up to £659 for the 128GB Wi-Fi plus 4G option.
