The fresh and extended Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain trailer has been launched at E3 2014 by Sony.
Powered by the Fox Engine, the game won’t arrive until 2015, but this new trailer is the latest information we’ve had on the title.
Snake is visibly older and more haggard and is often shown covered in blood from head to toe.
Sadly, the trailer has a song playing behind it the whole time, so you don’t hear much audio content or any story points outlined by the new footage.
The trailer is mostly focused on showing small wordless clips, mostly violent, of game footage, providing an overarching view of the game. There’s no coherence to the snippets and the lack of audio really makes you struggle to make sense of what’s going on.
What’s interesting is that this trailer is totally different to the last Metal Gear Solid 5 trailer we saw, with their supernatural beings or sprawling open-world desert.
We’re a little worried that this trailer focuses too much on the game’s themes, rather than appealing to existing fans of the franchise.
