During the Microsoft press conference at E3 2014, it was announced that Forza Horizon 2 will be released on 30 September.
Before now, we only knew that Forza Horizon 2 was coming "this fall”, but we now have a pinpoint 30 September released date for the game.
Forza Horizon 2 will be the second Forza-series game to be released for Xbox One. The first, Forza Motorsport 5, was released around the console’s launch back in November 2013.
The main difference between the ‘core’ Forza games and the Horizon titles is that you get much more freedom in the latter, something that will feature in Forza Horizon 2.
Forza Horizon 2 is being developed by Playground Games, which also worked on the original Forza Horizon, released back in 2012.
Playground Games’s creative direct Ralph Fulton recently told IGN that Forza Horizon 2 will run at 1080p, and be locked to 30fps. “1080p was an absolute must for us; it's the benchmark for next-gen,” Fulton told IGN.
There has been much talk online about how the PS4 is capable of higher frame rates and resolutions than the Xbox One when dealing with the same content, but this is naturally not a game that will test that, being a first-party title.
Alongside the announcement of the Forza Horizon 2 release date, it was announced that the Nurburgring will be added to Forza Motorsport 5. It’s considered one of the classic racing tracks in video games, and its absence caused some consternation among fans.
However, it certainly won’t be in Forza Horizon 2 as the game is set in Southern Europe, in and around a music festival.
