Nintendo has pulled a brand new IP for the Nintendo Wii U out of the bag at E3 2014, entitled Splatoon.
This colourful multiplayer title will launch some time in 2015 and puts you in control of bizarre half human, half squid creatures armed with ink.
You'll need to swap between squid and person in order to utilise both character's skills. For example, you'll only be able to shoot ink when you're a person, and then when you're a squid you can swim and leap between ink pools.
The game requires you to simultaneously protect your base with your own coloured ink and attack your opponents' base. Splatoon features 4 on 4 multiplayer, so you'll need to work with your team mates to successfully attack the enemy base.
Taking advantage of the Wii U GamePad's internal gyroscope, you can tilt the GamePad up and down to take a look around the world.
The entire Splatoon map is display on the GamePad's screen too with ink pools created by your team and the enemy appearing on the map in real time.
If one of your team members is having a hard time against the enemy, you can simply tap the GamePad's screen to jump straight to their location on the map.
Enemies will be able to ink over your own paths, making ink an offensive and defensive tool in Splatoon.
“No matter how you play, the ink you’re shooting has an effect on everyone else”.
Splatoon is coming to the Wii U exclusively in 2015, but a precise release date has yet to be confirmed.
