The PS4 UK launch app line-up will include BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport, a service that isn’t available on the Xbox One from launch.
BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport will both be available for the PS4 when it launches next Friday, November 29.
SixthAxis managed to get its hands on a UK PS4 console ahead of launch and discovered the PS4 TV and film services will include BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, IGN and BBC Sport from launch.
Unfortunately, there’s no sign of Netflix, Lovefilm, NowTV, ITV, 4oD or BlinkBox at the moment, but Sony may well announce further app availability before the PS4 UK launch next week.
The PS4 is already available in the US, as it launched on November 15, two weeks ahead of the UK release date. Sony has yet to officially release a full list of apps for the UK PS4 console.
The Xbox One launched today, November 22, in 13 markets across the world, including the UK.
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the full line-up of Day One apps for the console and revealed BBC iPlayer would not be available.
As well as the much-loved likes of Netflix and Lovefilm, the Xbox One also features rival on-demand services like blinkbox, Now TV and Wuaki.tv.
Demand 5, 4oD, Eurosport, TED and Crackle channels have also all be confirmed, with Machinima, MUZU TV and Twitch finishing the launch app line-up.
“We set out to make the Xbox One the all-in-one games and entertainment hub for your home,” explained Marc Whitten, Xbox Chief Product Officer. “The one system that offers the best entertainment experiences and apps.”
Whitten added that the above list of Xbox One apps is merely the first wave arriving for the next-gen console. The BBC did say they are working to bring the iPlayer app to the platform.
"While we are working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One in the future, we have no further details to share at this time,” said an official BBC spokesperson. "BBC iPlayer is already available to audiences on over 1,000 devices and platforms in the UK.”
