PS4 system update 1.51 released to address stability issues

Sony has launched a new PS4 system update, with patch 1.51 addressing a range of stability issues introduced to the next-gen console through the last software patch.

With PS4 system update 1.50 having been rolled out for the console’s US launch last Friday, November 15, EA suggested that the update had caused stability issues with the Xbox One rival’s gameplay options, forcing the Sony into action.

Rolled out last night, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 system update 1.51 is a “minor required update” which has improved “stability of system software.”

An official spokesperson for the company added: “In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.”

With the patch a required download before UK gamers can make use their PS4 consoles when the PS3 follow-on lands next Friday, November 29, Sony has revealed that the software refresh will automatically update to remove all fuss or fanfare.

“Your PS4 will automatically download it, enabling you to update quickly and easily,” the company stated.

Speaking earlier this week, EA stated that the previous PS4 system update 1.50 had caused a number of stability issues with the newly launched console. The publisher stated the update “results in stability issues while playing games on the system.”

An EA spokesperson added: “Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.

"This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen."
