Samsung Sport leaks as wearable fitness gadget

Following on from the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, leaked internal documents have revealed that the Korean company is now working on a Samsung Sport wearable fitness gadget.

Looking set to rival the likes of the Nike FuelBand or TomTom Multi-Sport training watch, the Samsung Sport looks set to line up as a multipurpose fitness tracker, with the wearable gadget capable of recording and presenting a range of data metrics.

Although Samsung has introduced the Samsung S Health fitness platform to its latest smartphones, including the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the newly leaked Samsung Sport looks set to be the company’s first, dedicated fitness peripheral.

With the Samsung Sport making a premature appearance through a leaked USPTO trademark filing, a product description has suggest the gadget will track everything from movements and calories burned to heart rate and even sleep patterns.

According to the leaked documents, the Samsung Sport will be a “Wearable monitor to measure bodily functions, heart rate, blood pressure, physical activity, walking speed, steps taken, calories burned, weather conditions, fitness training and activity data.”

Further highlighting the product the company added the Samsung Sport will be a “wearable electronic monitoring apparatus used to measure, collect and track sleep patterns.”

Although a trademark filing does not guarantee we will see a Samsung Sport make it to market, with many of the fitness tracking features surprise omissions from the Galaxy Gear, it would appear likely that a Samsung fitness tracker – possible under the more likely moniker of the Samsung Galaxy Sport – could be on the way.

Given the still questionable nature of the products physical existence, no Samsung Sport release date or price details are currently available.
