Sony reportedly buying back Crash Bandicoot from Activision

Crash Bandicoot coming to a PS4 near you? Maybe...

Sony is reportedly looking to buy back Crash Bandicoot from Activision and could be launching a new PS4 game in the future.

New rumours have emerged suggesting Sony is buying Crash Bandicoot back from Activision to launch a new PS4 title under the name.

Activision’s Crash Bandicoot website no longer loads and for some reason the developer no longer lists the game on its website, fuelling speculation that Sony has bought out the franchise.

Crash Bandicoot was one of the more iconic games for the PlayStation back in the days of PlayStation 1.

It was originally developed by Naughty Dogs and was a Sony PlayStation exclusive, but was sold to Activision.

However, a new Crash Bandicoot game hasn’t been launched since 2008. One was scheduled for a 2010 release but was subsequently cancelled.

This may mean that Activision has been sitting on an unfinished Crash Bandicoot game since then, which Sony could potentially take over and develop for the PS4.

Earlier this month, a PS4 Crash Bandicoot game was listed on the Amazon France website published by Sony, which suggests a game announcement could be on the cards.

Unfortunately, the Amazon France listing didn’t give a release date for the PS4 Crash Bandicoot game, but did state the RRP as €69.99, which would equate to UK PS4 RRP of around £50.

Sony has responded to the Crash Bandicoot for PS4 rumours on Twitter though, suggesting Activision still currently owns the license for the game.

One Twitter user posted: “So Crash Bandicoot for PS4 could be happening?”.

“Activision owns the IP, so you should ask them about it…” came the reply from Adam Boyes, Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations at Sony.
